I was the first Latina elected to public office in the City of Clifton as Commissioner on the Board of Education and then again in 2019 when I was the first member of an Ethnic minority to be elected to the Clifton City Council.
I am a Mother, Wife, Cliftonite, and your current Representative
Councilwoman Rosemary Pino has proudly served the residents of Clifton since 2014. Rosemary strives to bridge communities as she recently demonstrated meeting with the leaders of Guayaquil, Ecuador bringing with her a proclamation from Clifton Mayor and Council commemorating the 487th Anniversary of the South American city and extending the ties of friendship and solidarity. Given these achievements, her roots are humble.
She was born in the Bronx, to Ecuadorian immigrant parents and is one of six children. Rosemary is a homeowner in the city and has been a proud Clifton resident for more than 30 years. As a teen, she attended Clifton Public Schools from the 7th grade and then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Finance from Rutgers University. For more than a decade the current Councilwoman worked in the finance industry and has also worked for both Passaic County Community College and The US Treasury Department.
As a commissioner on the Clifton Board of Education, Pino worked tirelessly with other board members to ensure Clifton continued to provide students with a top-notch education while remaining fiscally responsible. Some accomplishments the board had achieved during her tenure were: investing over $8 million in capital improvements, allocating over $3 million for the safety and
security of the children, and ensuring the yearly school budget remained under the 2% tax cap. She also spearheaded a pilot program in the district to provide 1st-grade teachers with a para-professional for any classroom that exceeds over 25 students. The implementation of this program assisted in addressing overcrowding issues the district faces at the elementary level.
